Off the Market

If you're an NHL team in desperate need of a starting goaltender and are looking towards Vancouver, you can forget about Cory Schnieder.  The restricted free-agent to be had he not been signed agreed to a 3-year, $12 million dollar contract with the team, which almost certainly increases the pressure on the team to trade Roberto Luongo and his albatross contract.  That isn't to say Schneider is guaranteed a starting role, as conceivably, both could still be on the team by October 11, when the season starts.  As far as Luongo is concerned, Toronto and Florida are being kicked around as teams most interested in Luongo, with the latter, according to sources, being Luongo's destination of choice.  Do not rule out Chicago, Columbus, or the New York Islanders, though.  Chicago has issues as far as who will start, Columbus still doesn't have nearly enough goaltending depth, and the Islanders will need to find a way to the salary cap floor.  Of course, it will ultimately be up to Luongo as far as what he wants to do.  As for Schneider, it appears his future as a starting goaltender is now, and there is no doubt about it.
