In the battle of the top two teams in the Canadian Hockey League, the Halifax Mooseheads got off to a hot start, going up 3-0 on the Portland Winterhawks in the first period. The Winterhawks climbed back to a 3-2 deficit in the second period, though, setting up a good third period. The Mooseheads got back their three goal lead, but the Winterhawks would close to within one before an empty-net goal by Halifax would seal the Memorial Cup and a 6-4 win over the Portland Winterhawks. Nathan MacKinnon was named the MVP of the tournament, notching seven goals and 13 points in four games.
