I Got Moorcock to Review
The vivid imagery of a universe not seen to the human eye is one of the trademarks of author Michael Moorcock, and he proves it once again with the first in a series surrounding the character Corum. The first book in that series The Knight of the Swords follows the beginnings of Corum, who would be the last of the Vadaghs to survive, thanks to a slaughter of his folk at the hands of the Mabden, the Moorcock equivalent of what everyone refers to as the humans. Taking an eye and a hand from the Gods, two things that Corum was robbed of in his torture by the Mabden, he seeks out the heart of Arioch in a quest for vengeance. The story isn't the star of the book, though it does provide some compelling moments, as the imagery that Moorcock provides in each of the worlds presented is larger than life and often stirs the imagination, something that a good book should do every time out.
